Xero - Why can't I edit a supplier's bank account details?

What to do when you see a "Forbidden access" error when adding or updating bank account details for an existing contact in Xero.

Written by Tina

If you see a "Forbidden access" error when trying to add or update a supplier's bank account number in Datamolino, this is caused by a Xero permission change that took effect on 29 June 2026. It is not a connection issue with Datamolino.

What changed

Xero now requires the Bank account admin permission to add or update bank account details on existing contacts. Bank details can still be added when creating a brand new contact in Datamolino, but any attempt to add or change bank details on a contact that already exists in Xero will fail without this permission.

What you'll see

When attempting to add or update bank account details on an existing contact, Datamolino will display:

"Forbidden access (corrupted connection). If the issue persists please reconnect your folder to Xero."

This error message comes directly from Xero but in this case, reconnecting your folder will not fix this. The error is caused by a missing Xero permission.

How to fix it

A Xero user with Manage users permission needs to enable Bank account admin for the affected user:

  1. In Xero, click your organisation name → Settings

  2. Under General, click Users

  3. Click the user's name

  4. Scroll down to Bank account admin

  5. Tick "Can add and edit bank account details held for customers and suppliers" and click Update permissions

Once enabled, the user will be able to add or update bank account details on existing contacts as before.
