Bank statement export errors

👉 Why did my bank statement fail to export to Xero?

Xero checks every bank statement before accepting it. If the statement doesn't meet Xero's requirements, Xero rejects it, and you'll see an error message on the statement document in Datamolino.

👉 What does my error message mean?

Each error tells you which Xero requirement the statement didn't meet:

  • Transaction date outside statement period. One or more transactions fall outside the statement's start and end dates. Xero requires every transaction to be within the statement period.

  • Balances do not add up. The opening balance plus the transactions doesn't equal the closing balance, so Xero rejected the statement.

  • Start date too old. The statement start date is more than a year old. Xero only accepts bank feeds from within the last year.

Fixing transaction date and balance errors

👉 How do I fix a transaction date or balance error?

You can correct the details in an exported file and import it into Xero yourself:

  1. Open the statement and click Mark as ready in the error message.

  2. Choose Export to file -> Export to CSV.

  3. In the file, correct the details that caused the error, such as a transaction date outside the statement period or a wrong transaction amount.

  4. In Xero, open the relevant bank account and upload the file using Import Statement.

Import Statement is a Xero feature that lets you upload a bank statement file straight into a bank account in Xero.

👉 Can support fix it for me instead?

Yes. If you'd rather not edit the file yourself, contact our support team and we'll help correct the error.

Fixing the start date error

👉 How do I get a statement older than a year into Xero?

Xero won't accept it as a direct export, but you can still import it manually as a CSV file:

  1. Open the statement document and click Mark as ready in the error message.

  2. Choose Export to CSV.

  3. In Xero, open the relevant bank account and upload the file using Import Statement.
