Before you connect
Connecting a folder to Xero links that folder to one Xero organisation. Once connected, Datamolino can export documents and pull your chart of accounts, tax rates, and tracking categories from Xero.
A few things to know before you start:
One integration per folder. A folder can be connected to only one accounting system at a time. If the folder is already connected to QuickBooks or FreeAgent, disconnect that first.
Xero login and authorisation. You need a Xero login with access to the organisation you want to connect, and you need to authorise the Datamolino app during the connection flow.
Connect a folder to Xero
There are two places where you can start the connection.
👉 How to connect from the main dashboard?
On the main dashboard, find the folder you want to connect and click Connect.
👉 How to connect from inside a folder?
Open the folder, click on the Folder Menu on the right side of the screen and choose Connect your accounting. Then pick Connect to Xero.
👉 What happens after I click Connect to Xero?
You are redirected to Xero, where you sign in and authorise Datamolino to access the organisation. The authorisation must include the accounting permissions Datamolino requests - without them the connection cannot complete.
After you authorise, Xero returns you to Datamolino and the folder is linked to the chosen organisation. From this point you can start exporting documents.
👉 The organization is greyed out and it says it's already connected?
If the Xero organization you want to connect to is greyed out in the list and it says it is already connected, click on the button "Continue with [number] organization" and then click on the name of the organization when you are returned to a screen in Datamolino. See these 2 screenshots:
👉 Can I connect more than one folder to the same Xero organisation?
Yes. Each folder in Datamolino connects to one Xero organisation, and you can connect several folders to the same organisation - for example, for different departments, projects, or locations of the same company. Learn more about multiple folders connected to one Xero organisation.
Disconnect a folder from Xero
Disconnecting removes the link between the folder and Xero. The folder remains in Datamolino with its documents, but it can no longer export to Xero or pull data from it until you reconnect.
👉 How to disconnect from inside the folder?
Open the folder you want to disconnect, click on the Folder Menu button on the right side of the screen and select Disconnect Xero.
