What the mobile app is for
Datamolino has a phone application available for iOS and Android devices. It is the perfect tool for submitting photos of receipts while you are on the go.
Instead of having to scan receipts when you do not have access to a scanner, you can simply use your phone's camera to upload or take pictures. The image is sent straight into Datamolino for processing.
The mobile app is intended for submitting photos. To code documents and export them to your cloud accounting, please use the web application.

Setting up the mobile app
You need a Datamolino account before you install the app. If you were invited to a folder, click the link in the invitation email to set up your account. If you are starting on your own, create a separate account first on the web.
Go to the Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iOS) and download the Datamolino app.
Open the app and sign in with the same email and password you use on the web.
Give the app permission to access your phone's camera when prompted.
You will see the folders you have access to. Tap the folder you want to upload to and start taking photos.
Choosing where to upload
If you want to upload to a different folder, tap the Datamolino logo in the upper left corner. The app takes you back to the list of folders so you can pick another one.
👉 Where do my photos go after I upload?
Photos taken in the mobile app are saved to the folder's Purchases area. The document then goes through processing the same way as a web upload, and the source label shows "imported from mobile app" so you can tell where it came from.
👉 Can I upload to Sales, Bank statements, or Files from the mobile app?
No. Mobile capture is for the Purchases area only. For Sales, Bank statements, or Files, upload from the web app instead.
Adding a comment to a document
You can add a short comment to a document captured in the mobile app - for example, the purpose of the expense or the project to bill it to. The comment shows up next to the document in the web app, so whoever finishes coding it later can see your note.
Take a picture of your document inside the mobile app as usual.
In the list of documents (status Extracting or Ready), tap the document.
Switch the view to 'Comments'
Type your comment and save.
👉 Where can I see the comment in the web app?
Comments added on mobile appear in the web app underneath the document preview on the right-hand side. In the document list, you'll also notice a text icon next to the document - hover over it to preview the comment.
If an upload appears stuck
👉 My document is stuck with a spinning wheel. What can I do?
If a document shows a spinning wheel and the upload is not going through, you can re-send it from the mobile app. Tap the stuck document to open it, scroll down, and tap Re-upload document. The spinning wheel disappears and the status changes to Extracting once the upload is accepted.
What the mobile app cannot do
The mobile app shares the same processing limits as the web app:
If your account has reached its document limit (trial or paid), you will not be able to successfully import documents through the mobile app. You will receive a message: Received error from server. Try again later.
If your account is suspended or the folder is archived, processing is paused for mobile uploads as well.
The same file rules apply once the image arrives - very small images (under 160 pixels on either side) or very large ones (over 10,000 pixels) are skipped.
The mobile app cannot:
Show the full document list or document details.
Code documents (set accounts, tax codes, tracking).
Export to your accounting software.
Upload to Sales, Bank statements, or Files.
For any of those, switch to the web app.
