If you'd like to use approval as an additional review step in your workflow, but don't require strict validation and locking of documents, you can achieve this by disabling the Approval setting 'Lock document when submitted'.
Difference in approval workflow:

To change the 'Lock document when submitted' setting, take the following steps:
Go to 'Folder Menu' -> 'Accounting & Automation' ๐
Then go to 'Approval' -> 'Lock document when submitted', click to 'Disable' and then 'Save'.
